Vidalinux

June 7th, 2005

Okay, so recently i have started using Vidalinux as my distro of choice over gentoo, mainly due to the automatic installer…. But….

i did a fresh install recently. i have been fighting with portage for the past 3 days in order to get everything to update. and last time i checked (this morning) my machine still had around 60 packages to go.

I feel at this point it might have been quicker to just do a gentoo install.

if i have to do a fresh install again, i’ll just due a gentoo one, because this really isn’t worth it.

ALSO, they finally made gnome 2.10 and all of it’s little dependancies stable on x86. it’s about damn time! unfortunately i hit problems when upgrading libgnomeui. there was a file missing and it could figure out what a png was. ugh. it was stupid. the portage people are getting sloppy.

First day of Youth Creates

June 7th, 2005

So, Yesterday was the first day of youth creates. it went really well. For some reason, i hadn’t been aware of the fact that Turner and Nyrobi were going to be teaching. That totally kicks ass. i’m feeling that this year is going to be good.

Apple Switches to Intel

Quoting Reuters.com:

Apple announces shift to Intel chips from IBM
Mon Jun 6, 2005 1:41 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Apple Computer Inc. on Monday said it will shift to using Intel Corp. microprocessors in its Macintosh computers, severing its long relationship with International Business Machines Corp., which had supplied chips to Apple.

Apple said it would move all of its flagship Macintosh computers to Intel processors by the end of 2007.

Apple has publicly expressed frustration with IBM as a supplier in recent quarters. IBM had problems producing enough working versions of its PowerPC 970 chip, which Apple calls the G5. Also, IBM has yet to produce a version of the G5 that consumes less power and would be suitable for use in Apple’s laptop personal computers.

So, here’s my personal opinion on all of this stuff. I think that this will be a great move for apple. this will allow them to sell their OS by itself, and it will allow more users to get it. also it will potentially make Macs cheaper seeing how intel will give a better deal on their chips then IMB can on theirs.

on the other hand though, this could potentially backfire big time. Mac OS could lose it’s stability, and then lose that part of it’s niceness.

Personally, i think I will save up for a nice triple boot system. (Windows/Mac/Linux)

it’s about damn time.

So yeah, i now am the proud owner of FabulousGeek.com. I’ll give you all some background on why i started this.

I enjoy working in the theatre and on the computer. unfortunately, these two things don’t always match up. While talking to my mother the other day, she mention that she noticed there being a lack of “Fabulous Geeks” on the internet after she did a google search. I’ll admit there are lots of Chic Geeks and Glamorous Geeks, but i too think there aren’t many Fabulous geeks. She probably also mentioned it because i’ve been on a more “fabulous” streak lately rather then a “geek” streak (“fabulous” means more theatre then computer, “geek” refers to more computer then theatre). So later that day, i bought FabulousGeek.com, which, overtime, will be a blog, about… well… being fabulous and a geek.

So welcome, to FabulousGeek.com!
