Apple is Finally Catching On…

For those of you who haven’t noticed, Apple has released a new two button mouse called “The Mighty Mouse.”

A deviation from their standard iName scheme (e.g., iPod, iMac, iBook, etc.), it appears to work with both macs and windows PCs. Unfortunately, it has a short cord (designed to be plugged into the keyboard, mac style) and would require you to get a USB extension cord for it if you use either a NORMAL keyboard, or if you are using a wireless keyboard.

What makes this mouse truly unique is the trackball style scroller it has. this allows better control of scrolling vertically and horizontally. While this is not the first implementation of a mouse to allow users to scroll vertically and horizontally, it is one of the better implementations of it. generally a 360 scroller would consist of 2 separate scroll wheels, or a vertical scroll wheel that can be pushed from side to side to scroll horizontally.

I might be willing to get one eventually if the price goes down or if the windows/linux usability goes up. unfortunately that would require me to switch my KVM from using PS/2 ports to using USB, which in the long run would probably be a good thing.
