Save the Internet
I know, I know. Some of you may be wondering what kind of crack I’m on that i’ve put up a different main page. Well, I’m starting to get worried. I don’t go into politics much on here, but this problem affects me on a very, very serious level. The death of Net Neutrality is the first step to the demise of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The internet allows individuals be heard that might otherwise never be known about. Allowing large telcos to say, “Well, (MySpace/LiveJournal/Google/Yahoo!/Insert name of favorite online service) is a menace, so we’ll block it, but if you like you can use OUR similar system, for a small fee of only $24 a month!” is very, very bad.
Many of the major internet service providers are spending large amounts of money on lobbying to get a bill passed that will allow them to choose how they let you see the internet. Generally, you’d think that this blatant violation of freedom of the press would be shot down easily.
But it’s not. Many of our elected representatives are supporting the big telcos and cable companies. They are supporting bills that would allow your internet service provider to choose what you see and what you don’t.
How long will my site stay like this you ask? I don’t know. maybe i’ll get tired of politics. maybe I really will be blocked because I cannot pay enough money. It all depends on your help.
Tell anyone you know about this. Get people upset about this. Send them to http://savetheinternet.com.
This affects all of us. Let your voice be heard, DAMMIT!
