The Handle Bar, Greenville, SC

So yesterday, Squirrel and I made our trek to Greenville to see They Might be Giants on stage. Boy, it was so worth it.

We left Atlanta around 4 ish, and had a rather uneventful journey northward, passing a trucker stop that had a $10 20oz. rib-eye steak, and Cafe Risque who had speacial trucker discounts. These amused me to no end. Most of the trip up was spent talking, texting, or singing till we were hoarse. it was great fun.

Once we got to the handlebar, we got one of the last parking spots near the front (score!) and made our way over to a little italian place that served us really bad tasting food. Having our fill of that establishment, we returned to the handlebar to enjoy the free wifi, and to get ourselves a round of drinks. once our internet needs were satisfied, we went ahead and ventured into the main stage area to discover that some of TMBG’s guitars were simply sitting over at the side, completely unguarded. Squirrel blocked my attempts to walk over and steal touch them, and we then proceeded to wait for the show to start.

The show began with the band Oppenheimer,  an Irish band who you should absolutely check out. The lead singer/drummer (who looks a bit like moby) was quite amusing as he continually checked to make sure he wasn’t talking too fast. The music was great, and I would have stayed around after the show to get their CD, but alas, we had to leave. But that comes later in the story.

After Oppenheimer, there was a bit of time for me to go run and get another beer, which involved me going to the bar, getting told i need a wrist band, then getting a wristband (which were advertisements for a law firm that deals with DUI cases… BRILLIANT!), then going back to the bar, missing out on the tossing of the big TMBG foam fingers, and finally getting my beer. Christ.

Once i returned to my spot with squirrel (right next to the stage right confetti cannon), we waited impatiently for TMBG to come on. They started off with “The Mesopotamians” from their new Album “The Else” which you should also totally go out and buy right now so stop reading this for a bit and come back once you have the album.

The show continued on, with lots of energy and lights. I was close enough to John Flansburgh that i was able to get this fantastic picture of him kicking:

The show continued on for 2 hours, and had 2 fake endings. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of older material they performed, considering this tour is to promote their new album which you have bought already because i told you to earlier. right?

After the show was over, Marty Beller came out, and gave his drumsticks to some adoring fans (squirrel wanted them, but we were off by like thiiiis much) and the techies handed out the set lists (of which squirrel got one and i will try to post the list here later). I was also able to score squirrel a pick from Flansburgh or Dan Miller (it could have been either) to squirrel’s delight.

We then piled back into the car, and took off, only briefly stopping for a pit stop at a gas station (where i got me some CHEERWINE!) and continued back to Atlanta, in a rather uneventful trip, fighting sleep and waiting for our hearing to return.

All in all, a very good evening of fun.

Oh joy, a day off.

I just updated my Word press install to version 2.3. So far of the plug-ins that I have seen to work but I haven’t had a chance to test using postie which I will get to eventually.

So today was my day off and I went and saw a squirrel and I gave her presents. Her birthday is tomorrow but seeing as how I have work tomorrow, and she’ll probably end up spending it with other people and/or friends and/or family I decided that today would be an acceptable day to go and visit her. A text at her this morning saying can I come over and deliver your presents she said yes and I arrived at her place roughly around 1230. She was quite excited to have received a nexxon gift card, a T-shirt stating “I’m only here because my servers down”, and a pair of username/password underwear. We hung out for about an hour or two, debated on whether or not we should go see the Dalai Lama, and ended up deciding against it.

From her house I went to seven stages, where I was immediately confronted by Bri and Sydney, who were on their way with the cast of scratch and burn to lunch at the five Spot. I joined them as well as Mack and Heidi for food and had a great time.

I then went over to Java Lords, and hung out with Angelica for a bit. We discussed squirrels plans to start a porn website, and both agreed that it was a fantastic idea. Squirrel is a very hot and cute female.

I totally want to see her naked.

I then came home, sat down at my computer, played some world of warcraft, Maple story, checked out face book, my space, and various other websites. I also watched some TV and made some ramen.

I now need to go clean up the Ramen, and then get some sleep. Maybe tomorrow will be more interesting.

Oh yeah, I’m using dictation software to post to this. Sorry for any mistakes.

Please Lord…

It’s currently 5:30 in the morning, and i have rehearsal at 9:30. my head is pounding with a fucking headache, caused by the monotony of rehearsal, the wailing music sung repetitively during said rehearsal, and the fact that there is no much noise in my room that i cannot sleep. this is week one of rehearsal….

please lord, kill me now!

Burma

I feel very insignifigant at the moment.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article2563937.ece

there are bloggers running from the law in burma for simply taking pictures. monks are dying for a just cause. the government has shut down the internet in burma so that nothing can get out. and what am I doing?

I’m sitting here on my ass, in my air conditioned room, arguing with my girlfriend who wants me to come to bed, while people are dying.

i don’t know why i feel so… sad about this. i don’t get upset about stuff like this usually, but… they’re going after the geeks. they’re going after people who are like me. and I’m helpless. what can I do?

What am I doing with my life?
